Christmas 2009

January 10, 2010

The Dr. did not think it was a good idea for me to travel after November so we spent Christmas and New Years in Seattle. We made a huge feast Christmas evening and celebrated with a few friends. I made dozens of cookies and a prime rib for the occasion.

Z got to practice using his new toy (an image stabilized zoom lens) on Roller who visited a few days after Christmas.

The belly and the babies!

January 6, 2010

I’m at the 27th week – officially in the 3rd trimester so we’re in the home stretch! I felt pretty miserable the first 3 months – tired and nauseous all of the time but for the past two months I have felt surprisingly good. Z really pushed me to get the decorating, shopping, registering, etc. done early and I’m so thankful we did.

I’ve definitely noticed that over the last few weeks I have limited energy; bending and other small tasks are becoming more and more difficult! My feet are very swollen and I no longer fit in anything but sandals so the Dr. ordered me to drink coffee and other diuretics to reduce the swelling…. I never drink coffee or soda (or anything with caffeine!) so the babies went wild the first day. The combination of baths, propping my feet, and coffee, seemed to have helped immensely. I need to keep the swelling down so they don’t put me on bed rest or in the hospital (not unusual for twins unfortunately!).

We’ve been taking monthly pictures of the growing baby bump and it’s incredible to see how quickly my belly has changed! At first I could only really feel the girl kicking (she’s on the left) but I think the little boy has finally passed her in size and is now kicking a lot more! Every time Zvonimir puts his hand on my stomach they stop kicking… Hopefully he’ll get to feel it soon. It’s really a strange but incredible feeling!

Even though Lukas thinks the sonogram pictures are ‘creepy’ I wanted to post them anyway. These are from visits over the past few months –They do a sonogram every 2 weeks for multiple pregnancies so we get to see them often. Neither Z or I are very good at figuring out what we’re looking at without the help of the technician, but it’s still really amazing to see the babies growing and moving around. We’re hoping to get some 4-d pictures at the next visit (it really depends on the tech though!)

Eric & Sujeeta’s wedding

November 10, 2009

We recently went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to celebrate our friends Sujeeta and Eric (Needy)’s wedding. We had planned the trip before we learned we were pregnant but the timing worked out great and we were able to celebrate the wedding and enjoy a bit of a “baby-moon” at the same time. This was our last real vacation before the babies arrive.

We had an amazing time and enjoyed catching up with old friends from the DC area and soaking in the sun. The 90 degree Mexico sun was a welcome change from our chilly and dreary fall/winter weather.

We went swimming in the ocean with wild dolphins – this has to be one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my life. You dive under the water and the dolphins swim within a few feet of you. They’re just as curious about you as you are about them. I highly recommend a dive with un-caged dolphins if you ever have the chance. It’s well worth the money!

Fulton Fall Folk Festival 2009

November 10, 2009

My siblings usually all go home for the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. This is my hometown’s “homecoming” of sorts and is really a big tractor parade. It’s always good to have everyone home and eat some of mom’s cooking!

Mystery of the borrowed cat solved

November 2, 2009

“Roller” has been spending more and more time at our house lately and since he’s virtually a fixture on our couch lately, we figured we should find out if he belonged to anyone.  We started training him to wear a collar, on which we wrote “Am I your cat, if so, please call ….”

Unfortunately we learned that Roller does in fact belong to a neighbor who though she was just sending him outside to the bathroom (not sure how she rationalized him being gone for 8 hours at a time but so be it!).  Anyway, not much has changed, Roller (aka Scout) still stops by twice a day (6:30 am and 6:30 pm) for some dinner and some love.  The neighbor just had a baby so we think he may just be coming to our couch to get some sleep (and food of course).  He’s going to be in shock when the babies arrive and it’s no longer quiet here either.
