The San Juan Islands are located several hours north of Seattle near the Canadian border. To reach the islands you can either fly or take a 90 minute car ferry.
While it is not the peak season for traveling to the San Juans we wanted to see if it would be a good place to take my parents when they visit. We were hoping to catch a glimpse of an Orca pod that is often seen near the island but were not able to see them. We did, however, get to watch a playful sea otter feasting on sea kelp.
